When and How to Contact the Board

In the big picture, the BCAEA appoints a chair to run each event, and the con chair chooses how to run the event.

If you have a comment about anything under the con chair, instead of the BCAEA, you’d contact the con chair, or the person they delegated to.

The BCAEA is a registered society, so things like financials, and hotel contracts are in its name.

You’d choose to contact the BCAEA about:
  • Yourself becoming the con chair of a new event
  • Accountability for a con chair
  • Policies that the BCAEA is involved directly (ie. Staff Policy, Code of Conduct)
  • Multi-year disciplinary decisions or appeals on previous decisions.
  • Ideas for events or activities you think would be fitting for BCAEA to participate in.
  • For information about our Annual General Membership Meeting (which happens at every VancouFur).

If you have a question, or just want to give an FYI to the board, you may email the board directly via email at board@bcanthroevents.org or if you’d like to talk to your community rep directly, you can email communityrep@bcanthroevents.org. To help the board address your concerns or questions, please make sure your email is specific to your issue. Please be sure to include background information, and be specific about what is requested in terms of action or information required to address your issue. The Community Rep may be able to help organize your thoughts, but it doesn’t replace sending that mail.

Introducing Vanhoover Pony Expo

The board has a new event under its organization: Vanhoover Pony Expo held its first event in January 2019 under the con chair Aphinity at the Richmond Executive Airport Hotel. Next year’s event is taking place on January 10-12, 2020.

Working under a Board of Directors, an event chair has the freedom to run an event how they see fit, but the BCAEA can provide organizational assistance and possibly seed funding and equipment.

Maybe other events that align with our mission will be created under the BCAEA that align with our mission. Stay tuned.

Meet the new 2019 board members

Since our last post, the board has gone through a lot of changes. Rather than go over each change individually, let’s just reintroduce the entire board.

Carthage - Vice President - Carthage joined the board in July 2016. He was the con chair for Vancoufur 2018 and Vancoufur 2019 and was given a leave from the board to run them, so his term is extended to 2020.

The search for the 2018-19 Community Rep

The BC Anthropomorphic Events Association is seeking nominations for its one-year Community Representative position on the Board of Directors. This is a one-year term running from March 8, 2018 to the start date of VancouFur 2019.

The BC Anthropomorphic Events Association, a registered not-for-profit in the province of British Columbia, is the group that oversees the operation of VancouFur, principally, as well as events surrounding it in the Vancouver area. Board members are not involved directly with the operations of the convention from year to year (although Directors are welcome to volunteer as part of convention staff, remembering that they have no direct authority from their Board position); instead, they are responsible for establishing the rules, direction and financial allocation for the convention, as well as appointment of the Chair of the convention each year. Elected board members are legal representatives of the non-profit corporation legally responsible for VancouFur and other events.

At present, the Board consists of:

RainRat - Community Rep, term ends as of VancouFur
Mediar - term ends 2018
Greyson - replacement seat, term ends 2018
Carthage - On leave of absence as Chair
Tony Greyfox - term ends 2019
Pdawg - term ends 2019
Kyroo - term ends 2020
Zen - term ends 2020

Who is eligible for nomination?

Consider nominees who are motivated to assist in the growth of VancouFur and other area activities within the furry community. Convention operation experience is not necessary, but can certainly be a benefit. People who are driven to succeed, have good moral ethics, and unique perspectives are good candidates who can help the convention and the local community grow. They do not have to be current or former VancouFur staff members to be eligible.

How to submit a nomination

Please do not nominate people publicly. Instead, please direct an email with the subject line "2018 Community Rep Nomination" to board@vancoufur.org with the name of your nominee or nominees. Staff members may nominate up to three people.

Nominations must be submitted by 11:59 pm February 23, 2018.

Nominees will be contacted by members of the Board to confirm their acceptance of the nomination. Once the nominations are complete, the candidates will be asked to provide statements to the staff, and an election will be held for the position.

For more information about these elections or anything else regarding the BC Anthropomorphic Events Association, please feel free to email the Board or contact any individual member. Thank you!
